This Storm is what we call Progress : Ori Gersht

On a recent trip to london I visited 'This Storm is what we call Progress' an Ori Gersht exhibition. It was located within the Imperial War Museum which made a pleasant change to visit rather than a gallery in central.

Being located within the Museum was a welcome feel, With the war featuring within the show, I thought it being held here help ground it with meaning. it also allowed the viewer to find out more about the wars should they wish.

i found the work to be a powerful reminder as to the invisible suffering that the human goes through during and after a conflict. The show contains two dual projection films entitled 'Envaders' &  'Will You Dance For Me?'. Each document a different story, both as powerful as eachother. One follows the journey one poet made escaping Nazi-occupied France into Spain which ultimately ends with him taking his own life. The other is a first hand account from a female inmate at Auschwitz who was asked to dance for a SS Christmas meal. When she refused she was punished by being forced to stand in the snow for hours.

I will writing a full review at a later date which i will publish on here in the future.
Overall I found this to be a powerful and moving exhibition, in what I would consider to be a very appropriate setting.
